 Change Nursing Homes
« Thread Started on Nov 28, 2006, 10:35am »

Well, I think the reality is we ARE relying on nursing homes to take care of our nation's elderly. The big question is can we change the way our nursing homes look and function? They don't have to look like an institution. I can't imagine having to live in an institution with blaring TV's and corny singalongs. I think more nursing homes should follow the lead of the Eden Alternative and deinstitutionalize. Placing pet birds and dogs and plants in residents rooms and common areas can go a long way to making a place feel like a home. I know that is how I would like to spend my final years!
